My first question in this photo is what is the book that the 2 men are huddled over? From looking closely at the photo, I have a good idea that that book is the bible. It looks to me like the men have been through some rough times and are looking to their god or higher up to help them in their time of need. This picture makes me question a lot more things because it has the black and white look to it. I am going to go off on a limb and say that the two men are hard workers because when you look closely at the men's bodies you will see the constant veins that are coming out of their bodies. This is why I am assuming that they are going through rough times at work and that's why they are praying for some help to come their way sometime soon. I think that they are hard workers with the veins sticking out because based on my own experience of working on the farm at home I have found that the more I work, time-wise, I find the veins in my own body coming out. I also find them stre...

Richard Kagan

Image
The person that I chose to discuss this weeks blog on was Richard Kagan. Richard does alot of photography and it is all very interesting but the best thing that caught my attention was the collection of iron portraits that he made. This is the first picture that really caught my attention. What made this catch my attention is that I had no idea what this was until I looked at the title of it. I really like how he uses a black background with a little lighting on it to create that erie creepy mood. This is the kind of picture that makes me think of a horror movie. It makes me think of a horror movie because most time in a horror movie when someone has to pick up a phone there is normally a jumpscare coming. I also really like this photo for the idea of the object looking so old and preserved. I like the idea of older objects that were a part of history so this was a perfect picture to make me think of the old times and what phones back in the day were compared to the ones that we h...

Lee Friedlander

Image
Lee Friedlander was born in Washington on July 14, 1934. He began photographing in 1948.  "He made many images funny and poignant images among the chaos of city life, dense natural landscape, and many other objects." He is known for also liking to take pictures in the street using shadows to his advantage. He took lots of pictures of people, signs, cars, and of himself standing in front of store windows. He did this because when he did he was able to catch the light at a perfect time creating these perfect shadows in pictures.  Lee takes this very simple image and provides an instant question for me? My question was what was the point of this photo? After sitting for a couple minutes, I generated the idea of this picture that he is leaving his house and moving on to the future. When you watch movies, you will see a lot of scenes where people are looking out of a window, and you see their past slowly fading away in the mirror this is the kind of vibe I get f...

Steve McCcurry

Image
Steve McCurry was a man who was born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. He went to attend Penn State University and wanted to become a cinematography major and filmmaking but figured out that it wasn't for him so he decided to get a degree in theatre arts. He really became interested in photography when he shot pictures for the newspaper jumpstarting his career. He really got into his career when he traveled to northern Pakistan and started doing a lot of photography over there. He made a lot of unique pictures with a lot of portraits also being made. When I first look at this image a lot of thought come to my head very quickly. The first thought that comes to my head is why is there a man on the canoe floating down the river? My first thought was maybe that the flowers represented death and maybe there was a casket under those flowers almost like the flowers people would put on someone's casket at a funeral. I was thinking that this may be a special river where people will take d...

What Photography means to me!

I have already read the article for this class in my first class, but I will talk a little bit about why photography means so much to me. It means a lot to me because it represents a lot more than just a picture which a lot of people don't always see. There was a long phrase in the article, and it really made me think about why photography means so much to me. That quote went like this " Photographs don't only show us things, they do things. They engage us optically, neurologically, intellectually, emotionally, viscerally, and physically". This is something that people don't always understand. When you take a picture why should you take a picture? You should take a picture to make memories and have a good time with those pictures. That's why I love photography because it gives me the chance to take those pictures and make great memories with them which eventually brings the emotions along with the pictures. That's why it is so important to me, and it alwa...

Michael Ackerman

Image
I find this photo by Michael to be very unique. First, I would like to say I find this photo so interesting because it looks like something straight out of a murder scene. It looks like a scene where the lady gets in her car trying to get away from someone or something and as soon as she looks in her rear-view mirror something snatches her. It almost looks like she is getting pulled into eh back seat to be killed. I also like this photo because it was taken at night. You can see the lights outside of the car window. When a picture like this is taken in the dark it adds that mysterious mood. That's why I came to think of a scary movie. It is also raining out; you can see it on the window which adds even more creepiness to the photo. This picture would be plain to me in the daytime because it would look like she is just going to look in the back seat for something but since it is raining and it's nighttime it makes me really think about what's going on in the photo. Somethi...

Matt Black

Image
Matt Black was born in Santa Maria, California. While in high school he learned black-and-white journalism. In the 1990s Black made many trips to Latin America where he eventually got his first prize in the daily life category of the World Press Photo Award.  I really like this picture from Black. I like this photo because of the little river-looking area. In the photo, it looks like a tiny creek that has oil floating in the middle of it. This photo makes me think of back home. I have a very similar-looking area back home so when I see this picture it makes me think of being home and outside walking the railroad tracks and watching the sunset over the mountains. The picture is just an overall vibe for me because in an area like that, it's farmland and it's peaceful. You can just sit there and watch the cows graze the fields as the deer come onto the field and make friends with the cows. I am just so amazed that the picture looks like it was taken a couple steps from my house....
