Richard Kagan

The person that I chose to discuss this weeks blog on was Richard Kagan. Richard does alot of photography and it is all very interesting but the best thing that caught my attention was the collection of iron portraits that he made. This is the first picture that really caught my attention. What made this catch my attention is that I had no idea what this was until I looked at the title of it. I really like how he uses a black background with a little lighting on it to create that erie creepy mood. This is the kind of picture that makes me think of a horror movie. It makes me think of a horror movie because most time in a horror movie when someone has to pick up a phone there is normally a jumpscare coming. I also really like this photo for the idea of the object looking so old and preserved. I like the idea of older objects that were a part of history so this was a perfect picture to make me think of the old times and what phones back in the day were compared to the ones that we have right now.

Richard also was a fan of doing blurred images and most of the pictures that he took were awesome and I really liked them. Why I picked this picture because the sidewalk going into the building really caught my eye and it made me think of the kinds of movies I watched as a kid. This picture made me think of the karate kid scene where the kid had to clean the fence and he hated it but he didn't know that it was actually helping him get ready to fight. This picture also made me think of the childhood traditions of living in this kind of culture. In this culture, they are very peaceful, and these sidewalks lead to the spot where they will train to become at peace with their bodies and learn to fight. This picture to me was more about a memory that came to mind. I can't tell you how long it's been since I have watched The Karate Kid, but this picture really did make me think of it. I have come to learn that most of Richard's pictures spark some kind of memory whether it's the picture of the phone or the picture taken in Japan. If someone from Japan saw this photo, I am sure that this would cause a quick memory for that person as well.

Richard does a great job of generating memories for me. He was able to instantly take me back to a classical childhood movie, but he was also able to make me think of the old times in which life was not so easy. People had a life of farming and business. I feel like back then there wasn't a whole lot other than that but hey I didn't live back then I am just using the knowledge that I learned in Elementary school and some from high school.
