Bob Martin

Image
This was one of the really cool photos that Bob has taken. This is what I would like to call Bolts get back. I say this because I know some of the history that is going on in this photo. Basically before this team U.S.A. beat bolt and Jamaica in this race U.S.A. is actually winning the race when all of a sudden a guy trips with like 40 yards to go and Jamaica ends up winning an Olympic medal. But besides that point I will explain what I feel is really going on in the photo. In this photo you will see the look on Usain Bolts face of agony and pain but that's really just the look of a guy who is pushing his hardest to in the race. The main point that I want to express in this photo is that this is the world stage, so I really like how Bob was able to catch all of the emotions going through someones mind when they are only 100 yards from a gold medal for their country. This photo also catches the emotions of all the people in the background who are supporting their country and reall...

Ernst Haas

Image
Ernst Haas was the person who we had to do this week and I can say that I really liked some of his pictures but this was one that I really liked. The first thing that I noticed was the 4 things that you can look into to see further away. At first someone may have been like look at those 4 things and not get the possible ideas behind them. The first idea that came alive from me was that those 4 things look just like human faces. All the faces look very sad and maybe they look that way because nobody has paid the money to look through them and they are feeling worthless. Another idea that I got from here was the idea that we are always being watched. The "faces" of these objects are looking right back at you and it gives me the creepy vibe of a murder movie I watched called the Neighbors. It almost feels like every step that you take you will see the eyes of the objects follow you providing a super creepy vibe. This is the vibe I get in this photo and honestly without these b...

Maggie Taylor

Image
The person that I choose this week was a very inspiring person to me. This week I choose Maggie Taylor, and this was the first picture that I chose. While looking at this picture the first thing that I noticed was the storm clouds and lighting on the table. My first thought was that and then the look on the girls face. What I came to think about this image was that her emotions were under the top of the lightning and storm clouds and eventually when the parent pulled off the top all of a sudden, the lighting and storm clouds came out. The girl was then very angry at that time because her parent pulled off the lid exploiting all of the emotions that the girl had been building up over time. I then looked a little more into the picture and I see that there was a bird on the right and I thought maybe pulling off the lid was a good thing. I think it was a good thing because the girl can now be more at peace and relax. I say this because a bird like this looks like a peaceful bird. The...

Nan Goldin

Image
When I look at this picture there are a lot of ideas that come right to my mind. The first idea I get is the idea of depression. I get the idea that this person is super frustrated and most likely is drowning himself. Something else came to mind for me also and this was the idea that he is just sticking his head under water to get wet. I say this because if you look at the guy's hands you will see that the guy is covering his mouth with his hands. If you were going to end it all why would you cover your hands. The last idea that I get from this photo is the idea that the man is washing away his sins. In the church you become baptized sometime in your life if it's something that you want to do so I do kind of get the idea that this man really could be technically washing away his sins and this is the guy's way at a fresh start in life. The idea of baptism is such is to wash away your sins so this could really be an idea that is going on in the picture. Goldin did a great j...

Shelby Lee Adams

My first question in this photo is what is the book that the 2 men are huddled over? From looking closely at the photo, I have a good idea that that book is the bible. It looks to me like the men have been through some rough times and are looking to their god or higher up to help them in their time of need. This picture makes me question a lot more things because it has the black and white look to it. I am going to go off on a limb and say that the two men are hard workers because when you look closely at the men's bodies you will see the constant veins that are coming out of their bodies. This is why I am assuming that they are going through rough times at work and that's why they are praying for some help to come their way sometime soon. I think that they are hard workers with the veins sticking out because based on my own experience of working on the farm at home I have found that the more I work, time-wise, I find the veins in my own body coming out. I also find them stre...

Richard Kagan

Image
The person that I chose to discuss this weeks blog on was Richard Kagan. Richard does alot of photography and it is all very interesting but the best thing that caught my attention was the collection of iron portraits that he made. This is the first picture that really caught my attention. What made this catch my attention is that I had no idea what this was until I looked at the title of it. I really like how he uses a black background with a little lighting on it to create that erie creepy mood. This is the kind of picture that makes me think of a horror movie. It makes me think of a horror movie because most time in a horror movie when someone has to pick up a phone there is normally a jumpscare coming. I also really like this photo for the idea of the object looking so old and preserved. I like the idea of older objects that were a part of history so this was a perfect picture to make me think of the old times and what phones back in the day were compared to the ones that we h...

Lee Friedlander

Image
Lee Friedlander was born in Washington on July 14, 1934. He began photographing in 1948.  "He made many images funny and poignant images among the chaos of city life, dense natural landscape, and many other objects." He is known for also liking to take pictures in the street using shadows to his advantage. He took lots of pictures of people, signs, cars, and of himself standing in front of store windows. He did this because when he did he was able to catch the light at a perfect time creating these perfect shadows in pictures.  Lee takes this very simple image and provides an instant question for me? My question was what was the point of this photo? After sitting for a couple minutes, I generated the idea of this picture that he is leaving his house and moving on to the future. When you watch movies, you will see a lot of scenes where people are looking out of a window, and you see their past slowly fading away in the mirror this is the kind of vibe I get f...
