Arnold Newman
Arnold Newman was born in New York City on March 3, 1918. He went to study art at the school of Miami from 1936 to 1938. In 1938 he began his career by working at Chain portrait studios in Philidelphia, Baltimore, and West Palm Beach. He then went back home to open his own studio and became a member of the ASMP. He also was an author and went on to write many books.
This photo above to me is very interesting. What interests me so much about this photo is all the things going on in it. I first look at the photo and see where this picture is being taken at. It seems to be taking place in a mechanical shop of some sort. I say this because in the back left you see a man welding something by the train cart. I'm just curious as to why someone walked in and said hey you know this looks like a great place for a picture. I am also surprised the picture turned out so well because that ark flash from the welder is extremely bright. I find it interesting how he had a perfect frame due to the 2 beams that are running right next to the guy. I personally don't think this picture would have been as interesting without it being framed because then we would see all the carts and stuff in the back. The man looks like a mob boss. I get the evil kind of feeling, especially in the area he's in. He also has a dark spot on his face making him look even eviler than we think. Overall, I really like the picture and the thought put into the picture especially since the detail came out so well.
This was another picture I came to find really interesting. Why I find this photo so interesting is the use of "Empty space" What I mean is there is nobody in the restaurant except for him which would be weird at breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I also like the point in which he had two sets of cups and silverware there. Yes, he could have been having brunch with the man while he got this photo, but it made me think. I see this movie where a man would order food every time for his wife after she died maybe this was another occurrence of this. The man in the movie would do it to bring back the happy good times he had with his wife. Obviously, he was most likely having Bruch with the photographer, but it does make your brain think a little bit. Another thing with the photo was how the light shined through the windows. Without the light in this picture, it doesn't make the whole place look so clean, and it doesn't make the man look as good as it does. Without the light, I think it would create a dark mood and at that point there becomes a lot more things to think about. Overall, the photo is amazing and so clean. Everything literally looks like it was just mopped and swept but in reality, with it being black and white and the sun coming in it looks stellar.
