Lee Friedlander

Image
Lee Friedlander was born in Washington on July 14, 1934. He began photographing in 1948. It was stated that "he could organize a vast amount of visual information in dynamic compositions." "He made many images funny and poignant images among the chaos of city life, dense natural landscape, and many other objects." He is also known for taking pictures of the streets. He took lots of pictures of people, signs, cars, and of himself standing in front of store windows. It was said that he did this to catch the overlapping of light in urban landscapes. Lee Friedlander stated, " he is not a premeditative photographer." He also said that "you don't go out looking for pictures. The materials are generous you go out and the pictures are staring at you."        When I looked at this picture for the first time, I had a lot of questions about it. My first question was why did this man take a picture of another man and then himself as a shadow? After...

Man Ray

Image
Who was Man Ray?  Man Ray was a visual artist who made some very very unique pictures. Something I read about Ray Man was that he must have had a very interesting childhood of some sort. In a reading, it stated that he allowed very few details about his early life or background. Sometimes after using a camera to take pictures Man Ray moved away from, it to an anti-radical art movement. But really what's going on in this picture is the slinky is on a table and it is already bent to look like that. This photogram also makes you think about what this picture may be trying to convey. Maybe this is a symbol of something that Man Ray use...

What Photography Means To Me

What does photography mean to me? Photography to me means taking pictures or creating them for many and all types of reasons. You can do so much with photography today. You can use it to take pictures that will hang on your wall or ones that can be put into a museum. When you take pictures, you aren't just taking pictures, you are creating memories for yourself. One day you will look back on some of the pictures you have taken, and you will think about all the good memories you made with friends, family, and any other people that you include in your life. Never take something so simple as taking a picture for granted because I know that I have. I have many good fun memories in my life, but I know that if I would have just taken a few more seconds and snapped a quick picture I would have remembered it way better than I do in my mind. The essay Photography Changes Everything by Marvin Heiferman really brings out ideas in photography that I would have never thought of. One of the th...
